Sunday School

The St. Nicholas Church School was formally established in 1954 with an enrollment of six students under the supervision of Sophie Baloy Cook.  In 1955, when Father Borichevsky left Joliet, the church school abandoned.  In 1956, the Ladies Aid and Altar Circle, aware of the need for a church school, offered to sponsor the school, and in the fall of 1956, thirty-three students enrolled, with four teachers and two assistants.  The teachers and Father Kuchta met every Monday evening and discussed the following week’s lesson plans.  The St. Nicholas parish owes a debt of gratitude to these young women whose first consideration was always the teaching and welfare of the youth of St. Nicholas.
